This past week SPI has announced two safety standards, one of which is focused on robots for use with injection molding machines. The new safety requirement is expansive, reaching the supplier, remanufactured, modifier and user. The vast reach is due to complications that can occur when dealing with numerous sizes of both robots and machines within the industry. The new safety standards are designed to address robots in three areas: eliminate hazards by design criteria, establish standard approaches to design and safeguard the point of operation.
